Acer palmatum ‘Bloodgood’ has large, robust purple-red leaves that retain their color throughout the spring and summer. In the autumn, the leaves transform into a fiery crimson-red color. Acer palmatum ‘Bloodgood’ prefers moist, well-drained soils and may experience leaf scorch from excessive sun, wind, and drought. It is cold hardy and suitable for use in bonsai. Acer palmatum is deciduous and native to Japan, Korea, China, eastern Mongolia, and southeast Russia. ‘Bloodgood’ was developed before 1940 by Bloodgood Nursery in Long Island, New York, United States (founded in 1793) and named after the nursery.
