During spring, Acer cappadocicum ‘Aureum’ produces young foliage that is bright-yellow with orange-red margins. As summer approaches, the leaves transition to a light-green color. However, during autumn, the leaves turn bright-yellow, creating a lovely display. Acer cappadocicum ‘Aureum’ can tolerate periods of drought but prefers soil that is moist and well-drained. It’s worth noting that Acer cappadocicum ‘Aureum’ has a shallow root system. It’s best to avoid exposed, windy areas when planting Acer cappadocicum ‘Aureum’. Acer cappadocicum is deciduous and native to Asia, from central Turkey (ancient Cappadocia) east along the Caucasus and the Himalayas to southwestern China. Acer cappadocicum ‘Aureum’ was first introduced by Hesse Nurseries of Weener, Germany in 1914.
