Tolerates heavy clay soils and periodically wet soils. Will tolerate dry soil in a garden situation, but prefers moist to wet soil. Can be used for windbreaks, hedges, and screens.

Taxonomy and Etymology
Family: Fabaceae, legume, pea, or bean family, a family of flowering plants.
Genus: Acacia, acacia (Latin), derived from the Greek ἀκακία (akakía), a name given by the early Greek botanist-physician Pedanius Dioscorides, which, in turn, was derived from the Greek noun ἀκίς (akís), meaning 'sharp, pointed object', in reference to the characteristic thorns on many species in this genus. Commonly known as wattle or acacia, a genus of various trees and shrubs.
