Magnolia ‘Amethyst Flame’ produces bright purple-pink blooms in the spring and is a free-flowering tree. It begins to bloom at a young age and continues to produce an abundance of flowers. Magnolia ‘Amethyst Flame’ has an upright, sturdy, shrub-like growth habit and tends to clump from the base, adding to its aesthetic appeal. It is deciduous, not native to New Zealand, and a hybrid between Magnolia liliiflora and Magnolia ‘Vulcan’. ‘Amethyst Flame’ was raised by Vance Hooper at Duncan & Davies Nurseries in New Plymouth, New Zealand and was named in about 1995.
