It features larger maple-shaped leaves that emerge earlier than other cultivars. In the autumn, the leaves of Liquidambar styraciflua ‘Burgundy’ turn a rich, red-burgundy color, which persist well into winter, providing seasonal interest. Liquidambar styraciflua ‘Burgundy’ is known to color well in all climates and is an excellent choice for use as a street tree. It is important to note that in dry soil, Liquidambar styraciflua ‘Burgundy’ produces a taproot that helps reinforce it against wind, but in wetter soil, it only grows superficial roots and cannot tolerate much wind.
