This dense, bushy plant is covered in small, bright-green leaves, and its flower buds are a feature over the winter before bursting into bright-red, double-blossoms which completely cover the bush over an extended period in the spring. Leptospermum scoparium ‘Wiri Joan’ produces hardly any seeds, making it a low-maintenance choice for the garden. It is hardy and prefers well-drained sunny positions, making it a great choice for a variety of growing conditions. Leptospermum scoparium is evergreen and native to New Zealand and the states of New South Wales, Tasmania, and Victoria in Australia. Learn more about Leptospermum scoparium. Leptospermum scoparium ‘Wiri Joan’ was developed by Jack Hobbs of the Auckland Regional Botanic Gardens in New Zealand in the late 20th century.
