Quince
This fruit tree produces aromatic, yellow-skinned fruit with lemon-coloured flesh, which can be used for making cider, jams, and preserves. Cydonia oblonga ‘Taihape’ is tolerant and easy to grow in a sunny spot, and it typically fruits from mid-autumn through to early-winter. Its pink buds open to white flowers in mid to late-spring, and Cydonia oblonga ‘Taihape’ is self-fertile and disease-resistant, so it doesn’t require another tree for pollination and is less susceptible to diseases.
