Cornus kousa ‘Satomi’ is a vigorous grower and becomes smothered with large, flat, four-petalled, pink-red, star-shaped flowers in early summer, creating a beautiful display. Following the flowers, Cornus kousa ‘Satomi’ produces red, strawberry-like fruit that is relished by birds. During the autumn, the leaves turn into spectacular shades of red and purple, making for a striking display of colors. Due to its exceptional beauty and growth pattern, it is an excellent choice for a street tree. Cornus kousa is deciduous and native to East Asia including Korea, China, and Japan. The exact time of development is unknown, but Cornus kousa ‘Satomi’ has been in cultivation in the United States since 1986.
