Malus ‘Van Eseltine’ is columnar in shape, with erect branches. In the spring, large, pink-white, semi-double flowers open from scarlet buds, creating a stunning display. During autumn, the yellow fruit of Malus ‘Van Eseltine’ become flushed with red. Malus ‘Van Eseltine’ is ideal for smaller gardens and is also a great choice as a street tree. In the fall, the leaves of Malus ‘Van Eseltine’ turn a beautiful shade of yellow. Malus ‘Van Eseltine’ is deciduous, not native to New Zealand, and a hybrid between Malus x arnoldiana and Malus spectabilis. Malus ‘Van Eseltine’ was developed by Glen Parker Van Eseltine at the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station in Geneva, New York, United States and was introduced in 1930.
