Malus domestica ‘Golden Delicious’
Apple
This apple cultivar is suitable for desserts and functions as an excellent pollinator for other apple trees. The fruit is green-yellow, but it turns yellow as it ages, and the apples taste honeyed and very sweet when they ripen well. The fruit becomes ripe in late autumn, and the pink buds transform into white flowers during spring. While Malus domestica ‘Golden Delicious’ is self-fertile, planting it with Malus domestica ‘Fuji’, Malus domestica ‘Gala’, or Malus domestica ‘Red Delicious’ can lead to better crops. Malus domestica is deciduous and native to Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and China. Learn more about Malus domestica. Malus domestica ‘Golden Delicious’ was discovered at the Mullins’ family farm in Clay County, West Virginia, United States and was first sold in 1914 by Stark Brothers Nurseries in Louisiana, Missouri, United States.
