Camellia ‘Ruby Wedding’ produces large, bright-red flowers with frilly petals in anemone to peony form. The blooms are typically 8cm wide by 5cm deep and consist of 16 petals, about 137 petaloids, and gold stamens. They are very showy and contrast beautifully against the large, glossy, deep-green leaves, which are usually 9cm long by 5cm wide. Camellia ‘Ruby Wedding’ flowers from late winter to late spring and has a dense, compact growth habit with a pyramidal form. Camellia ‘Ruby Wedding’ is evergreen, not native to New Zealand, and a hybrid between Camellia japonica ‘Kimberley’ and Camellia x williamsii ‘Dark Nite’. Camellia ‘Ruby Wedding’ was produced by Les Jury in New Plymouth, New Zealand and first flowered in 1987.
